Artist Statement

My work drawns highly from my identity as a person. Which is why there are two themes that are overly present in my work. My first theme I’ve identified as “simple joys.” And the other is drawing from my Latina roots. I believe life is long and should be unrestricted. We should have the ability to find these simple joys and that is what matters because life is going to happen regardless therefore what’s the point if not to be happy. Which is why I would like to focus on elements in my life that brings me happiness or simply the feeling of joy. I made art because it is something fun and enjoyable but also it serve as an outlet to my disappointment and frustration with society as a Latina.

While I use a variety of materials and processes in each project my methodology is consistent. Although there may not always be material similarities between the different pieces they are linked by recurring formal concerns and through the subject matter. They are ultimately linked to my ideals and thoughts concerning life.
